The Miner is the NPC who runs Mining, selling pickaxes and other mining items in the Mining Shop. On each map the Miner stands outside spawn, near the mines; the Convenient Compass from Marcus can point you there. There is also a Miner in the Hub.
First visit
While you are Mining level 1, the Miner gives you a free Old Pickaxe the first time you talk (you need a free inventory slot). The Mining Shop opens once you reach Mining level 2. From then on it can also be opened from a UsefulBox.

The Miner sells Level II to Level XI pickaxes, unlocked between Mining level 2 and 73. See Skills#Pickaxes for their prices and effects.

Prices in Blood Stones need filled stones: right-click an Empty Blood Stone to fill it first.
