Runes are armor upgrades that give a stat bonus or a special effect. They are applied to diamond armor through Runecrafting, which is unlocked with a Renown upgrade.

Unlocking Runecrafting[edit]

The Runecrafting renown upgrade unlocks at Prestige 8:

  • Tier I (25 Renown): fish up monsters, and apply and use runes.
  • Tier II (125 Renown): unlocks Rune Sacrificing.

Runes on your armor are disabled if you do not own Runecrafting. The Runecrafting menu is opened from the same NPC that sells fishing rods.

Getting runes[edit]

  • Runes are found while fishing. Which rarities you can find depends on your Fishing level (see below).
  • Monsters you fish up can drop rune containers when killed, and better monsters drop better containers.
  • Runes and rune containers are also given by Daily Rewards and Riftwalker sacrifices.

Rarities[edit]

Better rarities can only be found once your Fishing level is high enough.

Rarity Found from
Uncommon Always
Rare Fishing Level 25
Epic Fishing Level 35
Legendary Fishing Level 46
Shiny Fishing Level 46

Shiny runes have the same effects as Legendary runes. The Crossbow and Double Cross runes only exist as Legendary or Shiny.

Applying runes[edit]

  • A rune can go on a diamond helmet, diamond chestplate or diamond boots, one rune per piece. Leggings cannot hold runes. A Riftslayer Crown with the Rune Slot attribute can also hold one (see Riftslayer Crowns).
  • Runes of the same type on several pieces stack.
  • Legendary and Shiny runes are soulbound once applied: only you can use them.

Rune Sacrificing[edit]

With Runecrafting Tier II, you can sacrifice runes of the same rarity for one random rune of the same rarity or higher. Shiny runes cannot be sacrificed.

  • Below Fishing Level 62 a sacrifice takes 5 runes. From Fishing Level 62, 3-Rune Sacrificing unlocks and it takes only 3.
  • There is a 30% chance that the new rune is one of the types you sacrificed.
Rarity sacrificed Cost Same rarity One rarity higher
Uncommon $60,000 35% 65% (Rare)
Rare $250,000 52% 48% (Epic)
Epic $1,000,000 82% 18% (Legendary)
Legendary $5,000,000 100% —

Rune containers[edit]

  • A Random Rune Container gives 1 rune: 8% Legendary, 13% Epic, 22% Rare, 57% Uncommon.
  • A Mega Rune Container holds 10 unrevealed runes, each rolled with the same odds.
  • Rarity containers (Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Shiny) give 1 guaranteed rune of that rarity.
